Maria's  family in front of their house. The house is built on a mangrove swamp and is sinking. A houseguest stands in the doorway, which used to be two feet higher.

Meet the kids from Brazil.

Kids currently receiving scholarships

These are some of the children whose lives are being profoundly changed through the scholarships they are receiving from school children and others who care enough to make a difference in their lives.

How are the kids chosen?

SHSKI helps impoverished children living in developing countries. Professionals from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working directly with kids in the streets and slums select the children.

Scholarship recipients are chosen based on a number of criteria including poverty, intelligence, having a fixed home, parents or guardians agreeing to allow the student to remain in school until high school graduation, self-discipline and a strong desire to learn and succeed.
