Educators
Having
your students participate in a fund-raising activity to help
street kids in Brazil is an excellent way to bring
global education into your classroom and bring many benefits
to your students.
Students actively involved in contributing to improve the
lives of children living in great poverty in Latin America
will have a sharply increased interest in studying
and learning about the lives of these children, about their
cultures and their countries. This can be a springboard for
research projects and classroom discussions.
Your students will begin to see themselves as being members
of a larger community, the world community, with a sense of
responsibility to that larger community as their world view
expands.
With
this service-learning
project, you will be providing your students with an opportunity
to stimulate and express the altruistic impulse that is in
all of them. This will be both a powerful and exciting learning
tool as well as an important character-building activity which
your students will find very motivating and gratifying.
